Fire pit at Milkwood Cabin

At Oppiedam Family Cabins, your comfort and safety is our utmost priority. Amidst our serene surroundings and cosy atmosphere, we want to ensure that your stay is not only memorable but also safe. As such, we've implemented comprehensive fire safety measures to protect both our guests and our property.

1. Fire PreventionĀ

Prevention is key to avoiding fire incidents. Here are some important tips to keep you and the estate safe:

  • Avoid making a Braai (BBQ) fire on windy days to prevent potential spreading.

  • Do not make a fire near any wooden structure or trees and shrubs.

  • Never leave a fire unattended, and ensure it's completely extinguished when finished.

2. Smoke Detectors and Fire ExtinguishersĀ

Every cabin at Oppiedam Family Cabins is equipped with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.

3. Emergency Evacuation PlanĀ

In the event of a fire, we have a detailed emergency evacuation plan in place. Guests will find evacuation routes clearly marked within each cabin, along with instructions on what to do in case of a fire.

4. CommunicationĀ

If you notice a fire, report it immediately to both:

  • Overstrand Fire & Rescue: 028 312 2400 / 028 313 8168

  • Overstrand Protection Services (OPS): 079 017 6056 / 028 315 1492

The procedure to follow to alert the Middlevlei Estate fire team:

  1. Report the fire to one of the following people (their contact details are provided on the evacuation plan):

  2. Chief Fire Marshal - Gert Minnaar

  3. Fire Liaison Officer - Megan Campbel

  4. Inform the team of the location of the fire, the intensity and the direction in which it is moving.

  5. ļ»æļ»æļ»æIf the Evacuation Alarm is sounded or you are told to evacuate by a Fire Marshal, you and your party should proceed to one of the Assembly Points as shown on this map, or to the Middlevlei Exit as instructed.

5. Personal Safety and SecurityĀ

Your safety is paramount. If the fire poses a threat to your property or personal safety, please leave everything and move away from the fire. Your lives are worth more than possessions.

Your Role in Fire SafetyĀ

Whilst we take every precaution to ensure fire safety at Oppiedam Family Cabins, we also rely on our guests to play a proactive role. We encourage guests to familiarise themselves with the cabin's layout and emergency procedures upon arrival. By working together, we can create a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

At Oppiedam Family Cabins, we're committed to providing a memorable and secure experience for our guests. If you have any questions or concerns about fire safety during your stay, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Stay safe, and enjoy your time with us at Oppiedam Family Cabins!
